Our Commitment to Children's Privacy
The Kids Zanta mobile app is designed specifically for children to enjoy reading stories in Tigrinya, Amharic, and Oromo. We are committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our app. We comply with applicable children's privacy laws, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States and similar regulations in other jurisdictions. The app is designed for children to use under the supervision of their parents or legal guardians.
Information Collected Through the Mobile App
The Kids Zanta mobile app collects and displays limited information that was set up by the child's parent or guardian:
- Display Name: The name shown in the app (chosen by the parent)
- Avatar: The profile picture displayed in the app
- Reading Preferences: Favorite themes and reading level used to personalize the experience
While using the app, we automatically collect:
- Reading Progress: Which stories and chapters have been read, allowing children to continue where they left off
- Library Activity: Stories saved to the child's personal library within the app
- App Usage Data: Basic technical information needed to ensure the app functions properly (e.g., app version, device type)
Parental Consent
We require verifiable parental consent before any child can use the mobile app:
- Only parents or guardians can create child profiles through their Kids Zanta account
- By creating a child profile and providing the app passkey to their child, the parent consents to the collection and use of data as described in this policy
- Children cannot create their own profiles or provide personal information directly through the app
- The app does not allow children to enter personal information, communicate with others, or make purchases
How Children Access the Mobile App
Children access the Kids Zanta mobile app using a secure 6-digit passkey:
- Each child profile has a unique 6-digit passkey provided by their parent
- Children enter this passkey on the app's login screen to access their personal library
- The passkey grants access only to that child's stories and reading progress
- The app does not store the passkey on the device after logout
- Sessions automatically expire after 24 hours of inactivity, requiring re-entry of the passkey
The mobile app provides a child-safe environment where children can only:
- Browse and read stories in their library
- View their reading progress and profile
- Access stories assigned to them by their parent
How We Use Children's Information in the App
We use information collected through the mobile app strictly to:
- Display the child's personal story library
- Save and sync reading progress across sessions
- Show age-appropriate story content based on the child's profile
- Personalize the reading experience based on preferences set by the parent
- Ensure the app functions properly on the child's device
The Kids Zanta mobile app does NOT:
- Display any advertisements to children
- Allow in-app purchases or payments
- Enable social features, messaging, or communication with others
- Collect location data, photos, or access device contacts
- Share children's information with third parties for marketing
- Create public profiles or allow user-generated content
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain children's app data only as long as the parent maintains an active Kids Zanta account:
- Parents can request deletion of their child's profile and all associated data at any time by contacting us
- When a child profile is deleted, all reading progress, library data, and preferences are permanently removed from our servers
- If a parent closes their Kids Zanta account, all associated child profiles and data are automatically deleted
- Uninstalling the app from a device removes any locally cached data
Third-Party Services in the Mobile App
The Kids Zanta mobile app uses limited third-party services:
- Cloud Storage: Story content and images are delivered from secure cloud servers
- App Analytics: We collect anonymous, aggregated app performance data (crash reports, load times) that cannot identify individual children
The mobile app does NOT use:
- Advertising networks or ad tracking
- Social media integrations
- Third-party login services
- Push notifications that contain personal information
All third-party service providers are contractually required to maintain the confidentiality and security of any data they process, and are prohibited from using it for any purpose other than providing services to Kids Zanta.
